ATHLETICS: BALASSINI AND CLARETTI GOLD AND SILVER IN THE HAMMER
 

First medals in the athletics. Ester Balassini and Clarissa Claretti won a gold and a silver medal in the hammer. Balassini throwd the hammer at 71.17m with the first try (after that 70,21 X 68,19 X 68,79) establishing a new record of the Games. Claretti got very close to her team mate with m.69,24. In third position Alexandra Papageorgiu (67,13).
