TARGET SHOOTING: FALCO WINS THE GOLD, ARGENTO THE SILVER IN THE SKEET AFTER THE PLAY OFF
The contest finished with a play off between the two Olympic Azzurri’s: Falco and Benelli, to declare the winner of the gold medal in the skeet. Ennio Falco, winner of Atalanta 1996, beated his team mate Andrea Benelli, first at Atene 2004, who had to be satisfied of the silver medal. Falco and Benelli, who standed in the final together with 121 centres, both made a score of 146 targets in total. In the head to head Ennio Falco fired four times and Benelli three. But they both established, with 146 targets the new record of the Mediterranean Games.
Play off also for the third position. This time between the two Cyprus athletes Georgios Achilleos who arrived in the final with 122 points, catched by his compatriot Antonis Nicolaides with 143p. In the end Achilleos won with three centres, because his opponent only got two.
