JUDO: YLENIA SCAPIN HAS NO RIVALS, BRIANCHESSI SILVER, ANDOLINA AND LEPRE BRONZE
Ylenia Scapin keeps the gold in the Mediterranean Games 2001. She took first place in category 70 kg after a play off, when the regular game was drawn (10-10), beating the Slovene Rasa Sraka 1-0. Ylenia, who also won two bronzes in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics and another two at the World Championship in 1999 and 2002.
Other three Azzurri’s reached the podium.
Paolo Bianchessi won three silver medals in the +100 kg. defeated finally by the Turk Tataroglu.
Barbara Andolina , in cat. +78 kg finished the competition in third position losing against the French Portet.
Francesco Lepre won the bronze medal in category -90 kg. finally beating Andrija Djurisic (Serbia Montenegro). In the semifinals Lepre was beaten by Greek Ilias Iliadis.
